Mesclun is a term for a salad mix that originated in the Provence region of France. The word “mesclun” comes from the regional word for “mix”. The greens used for this mix were traditionally the first young, tender greens coming up in the spring.
While a mesclun can include a wide variety of lettuce green combinations, at Bring Forth Urban Farm our mesclun consists of kale, lettuce, chicory, radicchio, arugula, swiss chard, beet greens, or mustard greens. Our pairing of greens uses variety to create a salad mix that’s diverse in terms of nutrition, flavor and texture.
Most people like our Gourmet Greens Mix as a fresh green salad.
However, you can toss our mesclun mix in a bit of olive oil and add some garlic and herbs to experience a traditional Provence salad. You might also want to throw in some goat cheese, bacon, and croutons to add protein and carbs and fill out the meal.
